At the site of the bridge, a Ford in the River at the town of Wetzlar has well earned by taxes and duties was much earlier. The important trade route from Frankfurt to Cologne led here over the Lahn. The name of the city of Wetzlar also here is justified: Wetzikon Brook was where the Ford (Furt in old german means LAR). In the 13th century, including the stone bridge built in Wetzlar lot.
